For some, another con of Thailand is that it is very much on the beaten track. Lots of tourists go to Thailand. It’s getting harder to find places in Thailand away from the masses where they give you local prices for goods and services.

Compared to the Philippines the level of English is not great in Thailand. It can be hard to find English speaking and writing staff for a growing internet business. Plus, if you go ‘legit’ in the country the costs for lawyers, accountants and visas can be high.

What makes Thailand a perennial favorite with internet entrepreneurs is that it is such a paradise country: once experienced, hard to leave.

So how does one overcome objections from the very people he is about to ask to spend money with him as well as tell everyone they know about the new venture?

Furthermore, they are able to use the same passwords and usernames to access the profiles of potential partners because of the merger. The cost element for the members is also reduced as they do not spend as much as they would to sign up on individual UK dating sites.

Mark changed the internet by basically inventing ‘Social Media’. If Facebook was a country, only China would be bigger.

Andrew Mason is the CEO and founder of Groupon. He is 29 years old and has already banked an estimated $600 million. He started the Groupon website in 2008 and it has grown ever since. The site allows people to use group spending power to get discounts for products and services. It is the discount voucher of the information age.

You might not have heard of Matthew Mullenweg but if you are interested in blogging or making websites you have probably used his software. Matthew is 26 years old and is worth $250 million. He is the creator of WordPress and Akismet.

WordPress has changed content creation on the internet, and has been a god send for internet marketers.

This handsome chap is not in a band. He is Naveen Selvadurai. He is 28 years old and worth about $80 million. Naveen created the Foursquare app for mobile phones that allows people to locate businesses and service providers in their area and then share reviews with friends. It is a nifty app that like Facebook has become part of the landscape of the internet.

In the case of each of these four men they combined talent in coding with a good idea. Not necessarily a ground-breakingly original idea, but an idea that caught the attention of the online world.

My family wanted a beach holiday, so we took a plane to Thailand. I’m a restless soul so my perfect holiday isn’t going to a beach. However, I had been ignoring my family too often because of work concerns so I conceded to their request.

I booked a holiday villa in Koh Phangan. The place was called Sunrise Villa and it was located on a hill overlooking the stunning bay of Thong Nai Pan. This is a beach area in the north of Koh Phangan famous for its natural scenery and far away from the crowds going to the full moon party.

The villa was comfortable without being luxurious. It had a kitchen, big lounge, 3 bedrooms, hot water showers, and best of all a balcony that stretched around the front of the building to take in the huge view.

I noticed in Thong Nai Pan, as in other places that we visited in Thailand, that there were very few different types of businesses. The choice seemed to be between opening a bar, a restaurant, a shop, an internet cafe or a tattoo parlor. The other business was running taxis. There seemed to be very little difference between the businesses in Thailand. They stuck to certain formula. It seemed the ones that did well had good locations (on the beach) or that offered slightly better value in terms of decor.

This got me thinking not about going into business in Thailand – that seems a mistake; but, rather about the small details that can make the difference between a successful start up and a failure.

It’s always instructive to travel!

Being a successful entrepreneur is as much a state of mind as it is being a genius that is able to invent a new type of cell phone or write a program that will prove indispensable to all home computer users.

Drive

Entrepreneurs are driven people. They work harder than all the people around them. There is normally no such thing as a public holiday or a Sunday off for an entrepreneur fighting to establish his or her business. They give their all. They are absorbed by the challenge they have given themselves. They understand every aspect of their business and they force themselves to consider all courses of action just in case they might have missed something that will promote success. It is the drive of an entrepreneur that inspires those around them to believe in the business, and to try their best.

The Bigger Picture

What singles entrepreneurs out is their grasp of the bigger picture. They can take in the essentials of a market place and of a product and service and can see what gives it value. This is not something everyone can do. An entrepreneur is attuned to the market and to consumer interests. They can see beyond the restrictions of what is available at the present and can see how new value can be brought to an old idea. They are visionaries in this sense. An entrepreneur will look at a consumer item and think how it can be improved, and how these improvements will be welcomed by the buying public. They understand instinctively that no business can flourish without a unique selling point, and that this point should be instantly understood by the consumer otherwise it is no such thing.

Responsibility

Most people are employees, and happily so because they are frightened to some degree of responsibility. While they might envy people like Bill Gates, they know in their heart of hearts that they don’t have what it takes. They want an easy life where they do their job and take home a pay check every month.

An entrepreneur wants no such thing. He or she is willing to take the responsibility for a company. They are willing to pay the cost of failure. They willingly shoulder the blame. This makes entrepreneurs leaders. They don’t want to hide behind bosses. They don’t want others making their decisions for them. Rather they are determined to sink or swim based on their own merits as a business person.

Pride of Performance

An entrepreneur is like a great artist in that he or she takes a great pride in their achievements. They want perfection; and nothing less will do. Most workers can accept a mediocre performance and say to themselves ‘it’s only work’. No such thing for an entrepreneur. For them every product must be perfect, every service executed exactly as it should be. And only when they have achieved this do they feel pride. Entrepreneurs view their business like a child prodigy. Only when the child lives up to its potential are they a happy parent.

So unless you think you have these attributes in spades it is perhaps best that you look for regular employment. But, if you do feel you have what it takes to succeed in your own business then go for it!
